The Real Story Behind Organized Crime in Mexico
Organized crime is often portrayed through the lens of fiction — films, series, novels — but the reality goes far beyond sensationalized narratives. In this talk, Maria-Inès will trace the real history of drug trafficking in Mexico: how these organizations formed, the historical, political, and economic contexts in which they emerged, and how they evolved into today’s transnational powers.
She will then examine the current state of organized crime in Mexico and how the international community is attempting to respond to a phenomenon whose impact stretches far beyond the country’s borders.
Through her rigorous and contextual approach, Maria-Inès provides a unique perspective on a complex issue, combining academic expertise with a deep understanding of contemporary global challenges.
